Client portal administration

Firm owners and administrators use the Access tab on a client record to give a client sign-in access to the client portal and control exactly what they can see and do there. For what the experience looks like from the client’s side, see the client portal guide.

If Access is hidden on a client record, see Permissions and Visibility.

  1. Open Clients and select the client record (individual or business).
  2. Select the Access tab.
  3. Select Add (the plus icon).
  4. In Select Profile, choose the contact who should be able to sign in.
  5. Turn on the permission categories this contact should have in the portal — Tasks, Jobs, Payments, Files, Reports, Calendar, and Chat — and the specific actions under each one. The actions differ by category: Tasks includes View, Add, Edit, Delete, Comment, and Attachment; Payments includes View and Download; Chat includes View and Send. Use Select all to turn on every action in a category at once.
  6. Select Add Permissions.

Assisterp creates the client’s portal sign-in account automatically and emails them their account details — there’s no separate step to send an invitation.

  1. Open the client record and select the Access tab.
  2. Select the row for the contact whose access you want to change.
  3. Turn permissions on or off.
  4. Select Update Permissions.
  1. Open the client record and select the Access tab.
  2. Select the row for the contact.
  3. Select Remove access.
  4. Confirm the removal.

Removing access deletes that contact’s permission record. If they need portal access again later, add it back from the same Access tab.
