Employee groups

Firm owners, practice managers, and administrators use Groups to organize staff into working teams — a tax department, a bookkeeping team, or the staff at one branch — so they can be selected together instead of one at a time.

If Groups is hidden, see Permissions and Visibility.

  1. Open Settings > Employees & Roles > Groups.
  2. Select Add (the plus icon).
  3. Enter the Group Name.
  4. Add a Description if it helps your team understand the group’s purpose.
  5. In Employees, select the staff members who belong to the group.
  6. Select Add.

  1. Open Settings > Employees & Roles > Groups.
  2. Select the group you want to change.
  3. Add or remove members in Employees.
  4. Select Update.

The two are easy to confuse because both are called groups:

  • An employee group collects your own staff. Use it to pick a whole team at once instead of selecting people individually.
  • A client group collects client records, and is managed under Clients. It is about which clients belong together, not which staff do.

Creating an employee group does not grant or restrict access on its own. Access still comes from each employee’s Role And Permission assignment — see Employees and Roles.
